Works In Progress

Over the past three decades, I have delved deep into Quebec's history, particularly focusing on the early pioneers and neighbours of Dundee Township, Quebec, and I'm excited to share my findings with you. Each of my 10 upcoming books promises a journey through time, exploring the lives, struggles, triumphs, and legacies of those who shaped the landscape of Quebec, southwest of Montreal, including First Nations impacted by British settlers.

Dundee formed part of an Indigenous reserve dating back to 1796. With decades of research based on primary and secondary sources I have tried to bring to life the forgotten tales and pivotal moments that shaped the heritage of Scottish, Irish and Loyalist settlers in the region.

You'll find a comprehensive exploration of Quebec's history and its interwoven relationships with neighbouring communities, Indigenous peoples, and pivotal historical events. From the Isle of Skye Settlement in Dundee, the founding of Huntingdon village and Huntingdon County townships; Fort Covington and adjacent towns of upper New York State, these books aim to highlight stories of resilience, adversity, adaptation and moving forward.

Also covered are the pivotal moments in Quebec such as European first contact in the 1500s in North America; the life of First Nations prior to contact; the history of New France built around the lucrative fur trade; the history of St. Regis Reservation; the Seven Years’ War; the political struggles and development of the massive Beauharnois Seigneury; the American invasions of Quebec, and the complexities of Indigenous reserve land leasing in Dundee.

Woven through these accounts are broader themes such as community development, religious and schooling institutions, entertainment, transportation networks like Durham boats, stagecoaches and steamships, and socio-political upheavals like the Quebec Rebellions of the 1830s and Fenian Raids of the 1860s and 1870s.

I’d love to meet people in person by giving presentations or setting up a table to sell my books at upcoming Historical Society events, town anniversaries, or county fairs. It’s as easy as connecting with me via email on the Contact page.
